Ringed Tails vs Normal Tails by PrimusGod Ringed Tails vs Normal Tails by PrimusGod
This has probably been brought up before, but I'm gonna do it, too. Ringed vs. natural.

A fox tail does not naturally grow rings, ever. A person twists the foxes tail to form the rings, and it isn't very good for the leather of the tail, which is why I'd suggest you not to twist the tail, either. Be careful when trying to undo the rings, and don't try to force it, either. May end up tearing them.

Ringed tails also happen when the person skinning it doesn't split the tail straight.

O: I did not know this. Question, does this always occur with really packed together rings like the one in this image?

I think it is a combination of the tan vs a semi crooked cut in some cases.  I have seen my own tails get ringed and I split them right down the middle so there are different ways it can happen.  Ok on a raccoon, not so much on a fox at least in my opinion.

Ah yes, I see it now... thank you for your enlightenment.
You should seriously write a book on fox pelts. I'd buy it.
